Das Zusammentreffen mit Siggi Loch und Nils Landgren im Jahr 1994 wurde zu einem Schlüsselereignis in der Geschichte des damals noch jungen Labels ACT und markierte den Beginn einer außergewöhnlichen Zusammenarbeit mit Schweden und schwedischen Künstlern. Nils Landgren wurde exklusiver ACT-Künstler und im November 1994 erschien das erste Album „Live in Stockholm”, der nun in “Nils Landgren Funk Unit“ umbenannten Band. Im Jahr darauf folgte mit „Paint it Blue” die erste Studioeinspielung. An den Keyboards: der junge Esbjörn Svensson, der wenig später mit e.s.t. zum wichtigsten europäischen Jazz-Phänomen der Nullerjahre werden sollte.
In der Folge wurde die JazzBaltica für ACT zum bedeutendsten Entdeckungs-Ort für viele weitere schwedische Künstler wie Viktoria Tolstoy, Lars Danielsson, Rigmor Gustafsson, Ulf Wakenius, Jan Lundgren, sowie „baltische“ Musiker wie Bugge Wesseltoft, Leszek Możdżer oder Cæcilie Norby. Und ACT wurde zum “Home of Swedish Jazz” – mit 116 Alben von schwedischen Künstlern in 25 Jahren, also mehr als 20 Prozent aller Veröffentlichungen des Labels. Im September 2008 sollte diese besondere Beziehung mit einem „German-Swedish Friendship” Festival auf Schloss Elmau gefeiert werden. Doch der Unfalltod von Esbjörn Svensson am 14. Juni 2008 ūberschattete das geplante Ereignis und so wurde es ein Gedenken an einen der größten Künstler des europäischen Jazz, festgehalten auf dem Album „Magic Momemts at Schloss Elmau: Best Of Swedish-German Friendship Concerts“.
Siggi Loch wurde für seine Verdienste um die Förderung schwedischer Kultur am 20. Oktober 2009 von S.M. König Gustav von Schweden zum Ritter 1. Klasse des „Nordsternordens“ (Royal Order of the Polar Star), ernannt. Mit Nils Landgren verbindet ihn eine nun schon 25 Jahre andauernde, enge Freundschaft, über 30 Alben als Leader und viele weitere als Gast und Produzent. Und der Jazz hat sich von einer einst in allererster Linie amerikanischen Kunstform zu einer musikalischen Richtung entwickelt, die auf der ganzen Welt zu Hause ist und mit dessen Vokabular Künstler aus allen Himmelsrichtungen ihre eigenen musikalischen und kulturellen Wurzeln verarbeiten und weiter tragen.
Nils Landgren indes erhielt am 13. Juni 2019 für seine Verdienste um die Musiklandschaft in Deutschland das Bundesverdienstkreuz von Bundespräsident Fank-Walter Steinmeier. “Letters to Process” is an anthology of artists’ writings on the topics of work and process, inspired by Linda Blomqvist’s “Selma”
During the process of creating “Selma”, Linda wrote numerous letters to and for “Selma”, as if the work itself was a subject – a fictive someone to lean on, dance with and write to. The letters reflect upon artistic work as a relational endeavour, mirroring the emotional bond that arose and developed between the artist and her work over time.
In “Letters to Process”, Linda and “Selma” are in the company of fourteen other artists who have written letters to artistic processes of their own. Collectively, the letters make up a diverse archive of observations and meditations on practice and process, unravelling the relational and affective commitments that constitute artist’s work.
During the book launch, editor Anne Vigeland will present “Letters to Process”, followed by a series of readings. The book will be available free of charge.
