Depending on the difficulty of your case, either a student or resident doctor will provide your care under the supervision of our licensed faculty dentists. We accept referrals from outside dentists and from within Detroit Mercy Dental Center. Clinics are closed for major holidays and at other times throughout the year for conferences, meetings and academic related events and breaks. Description and HoursPatients with treatment needs or medical histories that are too complex for the student clinic are referred to the AEGD Clinic. Treatment is provided by residents under the supervision of our licensed faculty dentists. Almost all general dentistry procedures are provided in the clinic — root canals, crowns, implants, dentures, extractions, esthetic dentistry such as teeth whitening and veneers, and deep cleanings. The most common way to treat problems is with root canal treatment. Standard radiographs such as panoramic, occlusal, and periapical views are done by students under the supervision of licensed faculty dentists. More complex radiographs, such as CT scans, are done by the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology faculty for higher fees. Most common procedures include biopsies, extractions, pre-prosthetic surgeries and implant placements. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and IV sedation are available. The most common way to treat orthodontic problems of the teeth and jaws is with braces. All types of orthodontic care are available in the clinic: early treatment for the baby teeth as well as treatment for young children, adolescents, adults and individuals requiring jaw surgery or those with cleft lip and palate as well as craniofacial anomalies.
